Racer Session #354 | Evil Genius | December 11, 2016
Greetings, fans of the Avant! This Sunday, the Racer Sessions will present Evil Genius (Portland/Los Angeles), formed in 2012 by Max Kutner, Stefan Kac and Mike Lockwood, and currently on tour. Each member brings a vast range of creative experience, performing and composing in genres as distant as death metal, polka, thrash, swing, chamber music, progressive rock, klezmer, surf and musique concrete. As a result, Evil Genius has drawn comparisons to groups such as the Minutemen and Captain Beefheart, but also to figures such as John McLaughlin, or Steve Lacy.
The trio sent has this to say leading up to their arrival in Seattle:
"Evil Genius could not be more thrilled to for the upcoming Racer session! We will have travelled nearly 2,000 miles to make the night happen and wish to share the following thought as a prompt for the jam session: We are as much invested in novelty-as-circumstance as we are in circumstance-as-novelty. It's the honest opinion of all of us that we're collectively adverse to it being precious. Embrace your taste and serve the present."
