Racer Session #353 | Katie Levine | December 4, 2016

Hey hey Racers,

This Sunday at 8pm, pianist and composer Katie Levine will present new music with longtime collaborators Amelia May Coulter (alto trombone) and Troy Schiefelbein (acoustic bass). As three Racer Session regulars, this performance is expected to be very fun and true to its intentions. Katie writes on her music below:

"Improvisation and composition allow me to step away from society's conventional pressures. I can create work that is unapologetically honest. Making music that engages with the ugly, awkward and absurd somehow makes me feel better, like in some little way I am challenging the status quo. The opportunity to disregard the expectations that encompass everyday life, and build something that feels truly genuine and intuitive is what is most valuable to me.

I don't really have many guidelines for the session. Do what you want, listen, be sincere, experiment unabashedly."
