Racer Session #536 | Insect Revenge | February 6, 2022
Greetings, Racer community!
After a pause on in-person gatherings, we’re looking forward to getting together with you for the first Racer Session of the year! We are excited to present a new project of musicians Sheridan Riley and Ahamefule J. Oluo called Insect Revenge, this Sunday at 7pm.
Described by Sheridan, “Insect Revenge came to form in the midst of the first re-entry from quarantine. Initially for the sake of jamming, perhaps also as a crash course in forming in-person friendship, it was quickly realized by both members that their musical ideas were fun and might be worth sharing! Insect Revenge aims to inspire movement, reflection, and joy.”
Ahamefule J. Oluo is a multi-hyphenate artist who composes music, plays the trumpet (among other instruments), and writes and performs both standup comedy and narrative storytelling. Aham is equally at home in duos and quartets as they are in the elaborate and autobiographical shows that they’ve created and toured throughout the US. Aham was the 2020 Earshot Jazz Festival artist in residence, and is known for shows such as Susan and Now I’m Fine, and the band Industrial Revelation.
Sheridan Riley is a drummer curious about structure, genre, narrative and tone. They enjoy playing with improvised and composed sounds. They have an ep called Participant coming out May 20th on Ruination Records, which attempts to explore the interplay between percussive rhythms, various ambient environments and the spoken word of dear friends.
Come early for the music, stay for the jam session and to catch up on the new year happenings of friends and strangers! It’ll be a treat to have you. See you there!
