Racer Session #568 | Evan Woodle | Sunday October 1st, 2023 at 7pm
Note: Recording of opening piece is mostly very quiet, with a few very loud moments. Recommended to listen with headphones, in a quiet environment, and with volume at ~50-75%.
Racers! Welcome back for another installment of Racer Sessions - we are excited to march forward in our new season at Gallery 1412, and we are doubly excited to be presenting friend of the session Evan Woodle! And when we say friend of the session, we should really be saying best friend of the session. Evan is both a founding member of Racer Sessions, and one of the people who keeps this darn thing afloat every other Sunday behind the scenes! So please allow us a moment to brag on him.
Evan has established himself as one of the Northwest’s preeminent creative musicians. His performances behind the drum set have captivated audiences throughout North America and Europe. He is just as at home playing avant-garde and experimental music as he is jazz or rock, is renown for his stylistic and dynamic range, and is quite possibly your favorite drummer’s favorite drummer. In addition to functioning as a driving force behind several bands and a first call to many PNW favorites, Evan is one of the co-founders of The Racer Sessions and Table & Chairs and works as Factotum/Chief Fulfillment Officer for local jazz institution Origin Arts.
Evan shared this statement about his Racer Session:
“My main inspiration for this session is the venue itself—Gallery 1412—and the kinds of musical opportunities that are now available to us. To that end, I will offer a simple solo meditative piece and some pointers for the jam session which aim to take advantage of the acoustic properties of our new home.”
If you know Evan, you know how thoughtful he is about sound - this is one you’ll want to check out, firshir. We hope you’ll join us at Gallery 1412 this Sunday at 7pm! As always, jam session to follow.
