Racer Session #281 | Brennan Carter’s Bloom | July 12, 2015
For this session, I’m playing a few compositions of mine with my new group, Bloom. Joining me is Levi Gillis (tenor saxophone), Mark Hunter (acoustic bass), and Jarred Katz (drumset).
The idea behind this project is to highlight each individual’s musical personality through the compositions. When composing the music, I very much had the sound of each player in my mind, and tried to create space for individuality with songs that lead to open and natural improvisations. The music is very melodically driven, so for this session I’d like to suggest that the improvisers keep melody at the forefront of the music, regardless of their instrument and it’s normal function/role.
