Racer Session #199 | Jacob Zimmerman | December 1, 2013
The focus of this week’s session will be listening to and emulating aspects of “classic” recordings of free improvisation. The goal is to provide a variety of new listening and playing experiences for the players. In addition to myself I’ve enlisted Wayne Horvitz, Tom Varner and Christian Pincock to aid in the selection of recordings to be used. This will ensure a diverse range of music and ideas.
The structure will be as follows: a group of players will be formed. Then we’ll listen to a recording. Then with the guidance of one of the four recording “curators,” the group will improvise using specific ideas taken from the recording.
