Racer Session #226 | Jacob Zimmerman | June 15, 2014
9 innings:
Last month I was invited to present my music on the Best Coast Composers Series organized by Lisa Mezzacappa at the Center for New Music in San Francisco.
I composed a set of pieces for improvising duos. Each piece consists of 9 sections of indeterminate length, ranging anywhere from 1 second to 5 minutes, each separated by a short silence.
The players improvise, and simple individual instructions such as “play louder” or “less dense than other player” gradually transform and give the piece shape.
They have a game-like quality and are fun to play. PLUS, later in the session we can expand to larger ensemble sizes.
