No Session | May 11, 2014
This Sunday is the last night of IMPfest VI, the sixth annual festival put on by our older cousin at the University of Washington, the Improvised Music Project. IMPfest VI begins Friday 9th and features UW students performing with a number of internationally-acclaimed artists (scroll below for details).
As such, we have cancelled this Sunday’s session and will all be taking a field trip down to the Jones Playhouse to see UW students perform with Billy Hart and Ben Street, followed by a performance by the great Bill Frisell.
(But, of course, go hang out at Cafe Racer after the show!)
The founding of the Improvised Music Project in 2008 created a powerful organizing link between the experimental and improvised music scene within the UW School of Music and that of the outside community. Along with the former Sunday night free jazz sessions at the Blue Moon, the IMP helped pave the way for the Racer Sessions and Table & Chairs, and we are proud to support them.

UW’s Improvised Music Project presents the sixth annual IMPfest! As usual, each night of the festival will feature one or two world-class guest artists in concert with UW students from the Jazz Studies department; but, this year’s edition will also see UW faculty Cuong Vu, Ted Poor, and Bill Frisell make nightly appearances with each featured artist. We are pleased this year to announce a particularly stylistically diverse collection of featured artists: Billy Hart (drums), Ben Street (bass), Pete Rende (keyboards), and Holly Palmer (singer-songwriter).
