In my experience, music always seems to be hit and miss when performed without a musical purpose or goal. It’s not that it’s bad to experiment—in fact, experimentation is vital to musical development—but sometimes you need to establish or stick to a clear goal behind what you play (beyond experimenting for experimenting’s sake). Whether what you’re playing is old, new, or free, no matter what, music needs purpose. So, for this session, I want people to be purposeful. I don’t care about the “who, what, when, where, or why”— just have a clear intent.
The performance will be a duet with Rubin Holbein and myself. We will be playing a mix of free and written music (written by me).
