Racer Session #122 | The Westerlies + 2 | June 10, 2012
In light of Cafe Racer’s temporary closure due to last week’s tragic incident, tonight’s session will take place a block away at Luke’s house. Please e-mail for directions.
How does our sonic environment affect how we improvise?
This week, we explore the question in two ways:
1) We will present a new composition for brass quartet, piano & drums, and pre-recorded sound environments. The piece, written by our pianist Sam Yulsman, explores how field-recordings can transport both improvisor and listener; how the sonic context of a performance can affect it’s perception.
2) Taking this concept a step further, we will open up the session as usual. For the first five pieces, each improvising ensemble will exist inside of a five minute pre-recorded sound sample, captured in diverse environments.
Love,
