Greetings, Racers!
This Sunday at 8pm, Abbey Blackwell and Haley Freedlund will be presenting a short set of multi-instrumental duos before opening things up for the weekly jam session. Some words from Haley below:
“The music Abbey and I will share tonight is an eclectic mix of songwriting, more formal compositions, works-in-progress, and free improvisations. Though we didn’t have any proper goals in mind when deciding to share these works, one thread that came through in the process was the ability to work together as two friends and musicians to create and collaborate on a variety of styles and with a variety of tools. Between the two of us, we will share music for double bass, trombone, guitar, and two voices.
This music, with some exception, is also not inherently free or left-of-center - something a little inordinary for a Sunday night at Racer. Let this inform the jam - when you improvise tonight, let your playing be fed by the other parts of your artistic identity, be them genres or mediums or colors or creeds.”
