Racer Session #548 | Jackson Cotugno + Friends | Sunday September 4th, 2022
Greetings, Racer community!
Welcome to September, a transitional month by any means. Soon we’ll see the weather start to cool off, the night come a little bit quicker, and school creep up around the corner if it isn’t already in session for you or your students. We love September around here; we see new faces and welcome back old friends this time of year. This is true for this Sunday, and will remain a theme through the Fall season! So keep an eye on our calendar.
This Sunday we’re delighted to welcome saxophonist Jackson Cotugno to the Racer stage. If you’ve been present on the Seattle jazz scene in the last year or two, then it would have been hard to miss Jackson, who has been a thoughtful, intentional, and talented presence at jam sessions and on the city’s favorite stages. As he’s started to step out more with his own projects, we’ve been excited about the idea of partnering with him to present a Racer Session!
Jackson will be joined by Julian Weisman (bass) and Rocky Martin (drums and found objects). Julian and Rocky are similarly recent additions to the Seattle scene, Julian by way of Massachusetts and Rocky by way of Indiana. Both are incredible musicians and deep listeners who have swiftly found their way in Seattle.
The trio will be performing a combination of free improvisation, spoken word, originals, and more. Jackson, Rocky, and Julian have spent many hours playing together and have developed a strong musical bond as well as an absolute commitment to the moment, and we’re looking forward to sharing this space with them to see and hear what direction they take the music. We hope that you can join us! 7pm, this Sunday. See you at the sesh!
